2024 Virtual Conference Presentation Submissions

2024 Virtual Conference Educational Session Proposal

The SPPCP Virtual Conference Planning Committee is now accepting submissions for educational session proposals for the 2024 Virtual Conference. The conference will take place on May 21, 2024. The call for submissions is currently open and will remain open until December 1, 2023. All topics of interest to SPPCP members in the areas of pain management, palliative care, and hospice are desired. Proposals will be accepted for 30- and 60-minute sessions. Speakers should be available to present between 11am and 5pm ET on the day of the conference.

This year, we have two special sessions for which we are accepting individual proposals: The Jeff Fudin Debates and Complex Case Series. Proposals will be accepted for 1) individual debate topics (each debate will be 15 mins between two debaters) and 2) complex cases (each case will be 20 mins by a single presenter) in the areas of pain management, palliative care, and hospice. One debate/case will be chosen for each of these areas to ensure the learning interests of all members are met.

See this link for detailed information about submission requirements and this link for the rubric used to evaluate submissions. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Please note that owners or employees of ineligible companies cannot participate in the virtual conference as speakers. You will be asked to attest that you are not an owner or employee of an ineligible company as part of the submission process. See here for more information about ineligible companies.

Submissions will be evaluated on a rolling basis, and speakers will be notified of acceptance by mid-January 2024. Draft slides will be due in late March 2024.

This is a great opportunity to get involved with SPPCP and your fellow colleagues, and we hope you will consider submitting a proposal. New practitioners are welcome to submit and are encouraged to work with a mentor to increase the likelihood of acceptance. Proposals from SPPCP members will be given more weight in the review process than non-members.

What practice-based problem (gap) will this education address? Please enter the background information for the needs assessment here. The background information should provide a general overview of the current practice(s)/practice landscape related to the area of focus for the proposed CPE activity. Examples: poor vaccination rates for a specific vaccine-preventable disease, a specific healthcare disparity, poor patient adherence, high number of patients with specific risk factors, low or unimproved number of patients considered controlled for a specific disease state, poor care coordination, poor communication with patients and family members, unsure of the best way to provide constructive feedback to learners etc. Provide supporting documentation/reference when appropriate. For example, Gap = % of patients with controlled diabetes have not increased from year X to year Y. Provide a citation(s) for data. : *
What is the reason for the gap? Once the gaps and needs have been identified, provide a brief summary of each gap/need. The brief summary should include the following: A statement (1-2 sentences) clearly noting what the practice gap is. (e.g. Not all pharmacists understand the pharmacokinetic differences between regular and ultra-rapid-acting insulins; many pharmacists aren’t aware of drug/drug interactions with direct oral anticoagulants; legislation changes; updated guidelines, new therapies, new evidence-based literature, etc.). A brief summary of current practices and best practices related to each identified gap. (2-3 paragraphs) Be sure to include references for the sources used to identify gaps and needs. : *
Provide a brief statement explaining what the program will achieve (1 paragraph). Examples: improve poor vaccination rates for a specific vaccine-preventable disease, reduce a specific disparity, increase patient adherence, decrease % patients with specific risk factors, increase % of patients considered controlled for a specific disease state, improve care coordination, improve communication with patients and family members, provide constructive feedback to learners etc. : *

Provide a brief description (max 100 words) of the program that broadly describes the purpose and scope of the session. This description will help participants gauge whether the program matches their learning interests and needs. Enter N/A if submitting for Jeff Fudin Debates or Complicated Case Series: *
