Dear Society of Palliative Care Pharmacists Members,
The Society of Palliative Care Pharmacists (SPCP) was developed in late 2015 by 25 core leaders within the specialty areas of Pain Management, Palliative Care, and Hospice to provide a home for pharmacists practicing in these three specialties to have a meaningful impact and practice at the height of their profession.
Being a Founding Member, I am excited to continue the journey with SPCP and I thank you for the trust and faith you bestowed in me as the incoming President of our Society. It is with great pleasure and humility that I take on this role. I welcome all our new members in the last year and I encourage continued participation in your Society. We are a small, yet growing organization and it is a crucial time for all of us to work together towards optimizing patient care, creating and highlighting our role as integral transdisciplinary team members, providing education and leadership for pharmacists in in pain and palliative care, advocating for legislation and public policy impacting our profession and patients, as well as ultimately facilitating research to promote better care.
Thank you to all the continuing board members and welcome to our new board members. It is with great honor that I work with these elected colleagues, representing the three specialties within SPCP, towards our mission, vision, and strategic plan in the upcoming year. I hope that together we can impart great leadership for our Society by providing opportunities, networking, tools and guidance so that our members are successful.
The SPCP board members strive to represent and serve the interests of the members of the society by helping you meet your professional goals and needs of your practice. The momentum of our Society is driven by members serving in leadership roles and as active members of our committees. Below you will find a list of committees. Although we have great leadership, I can’t emphasize enough to our members that is through your involvement that we will have many achievements to accomplish together. Please email me and let me know how we can better serve your needs in your area of practice and how you would like to be more involved in the Society through committee work.
Rabia Atayee, PharmD, BCPS
